If you are like many people, you use Photoshop. This software is used for a variety of reasons. From designing to drawing, Photoshop can be used for anything that you can imagine. Although Photoshop is inexpensive, it can be expensive if you use it for too many hours a day. This software comes in a variety of different types and each type has its own set of features. Usually, when you refer to "Photoshop," you are referring to the software that is made by Adobe. There are other versions of Photoshop that are not made by Adobe. Adobe Photoshop is the most popular software used to create images.
Parts are filters that can be placed in Photoshop. While they are not shortcuts, I like the way that Photoshop manages them. When you select one of the available filters in the Filters panel, you get an option to manage it. The first option is to move it to the top of the image, where you can use it via Shift+Ctrl/Command+1. The second way is to add it to an adjustment layer, where you can use it with a single click.
While I find the intent of the new system rather intriguing and slowly amassing the required knowledge and time to get all the different elements working, I must admit that I have not yet had a chance to test it out. So, my own incomplete impressions are limited to this:
- I like the fact that the table of software updates and notices is sorted by version number
- All my raw files are now contained within the Photos folder rather than being stored in a separate "Photographs" folder (again) —I must admit that this really bugs me and I will, I'm sure, miss this feature if it gets moved back.
- As I mentioned, one of the most enticing features is the ability to share my photos with others in a gallery.
Lightroom 5 comes as a free upgrade to Lightroom 4 users and a licensing change from LR 2kx to LR 5. One of the great overlooked gems of Lightroom has been support for the NEF format. Adobe has performed a lot of great work in this area. A few weeks ago, even before the release of Lightroom 5, Adobe announced the jury-awarded "CinemaDNG" format—formerly known as DCPx. This new DCF file format uses some of the camera manufacturer's proprietary metadata embedded in the NEF file to provide resolution, frame size, color profile, file type and more for a given camera model. In short, the metadata is more modern and detailed than that of the HP3 or HP4 NEFs created by photographers 15 years ago.
I've been working with graphics and designing in general for over 20 years now. Over the course of that time, I've had more than the usual amount of hours in front of the computer. While most of your time will still be spent in front of a computer, you will take the occasional break or short walk to re-energize. Plus, exercise can help supplement your other work-life balance by making you more productive and more patient when sitting in front of the computer. Try and keep hydrated as well so you don't burn out.
